Dr. Beers’ training and clinical experience is in the area of neuropsychology with an emphasis on pediatric assessment.  Dr. Beers has expertise in learning disorders, child abuse, neurotoxic exposure, and traumatic brain injury.
Dr. Beers attended Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, receiving a bachelor's of arts degree in English.  She received her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in Counseling Psychology in 1992.  She completed postdoctoral work at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC, the University of Pittsburgh, and at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center.
Dr. Beers’ research has concerned the neurobehavioral changes in children and adults with medical, psychiatric, and developmental learning disorders.  Her work has dealt specifically with information processing and cognitive deficits (e.g., memory, executive function) associated with traumatic brain injury of varying levels of severity.  She has received continuous grant funding from the National Institutes of Health since 1999, and is currently an Investigator on a clinical trial that investigates hypothermia as an intervention for pediatric head trauma at 15 hospitals across the United States.
