UPMC Physicians Cited in America's Top Doctors Book
PITTSBURGH, November 1, 2001 — When physicians around the country were asked, “to whom would you send members of your family,” 65 physicians in 33 specialty areas from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and hospitals across the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center were recommended. These physicians are listed in a recently published book, America’s Top Doctors.
The book identifies leading specialists for the care and treatment of more than 1,700 diseases and medical conditions. Included are physicians from throughout the United States who represent more than 60 medical specialties and subspecialties. It is published by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd.
To conduct their survey, Castle Connolly mailed nomination forms to randomly selected board certified doctors in a given area. These forms provide an anonymous and confidential opportunity to nominate outstanding physicians in various specialties and subspecialties. The company seeks nominations not only of those physicians who excel in academic medicine and research but also those who exhibit excellence in patient care.
Specialties in which UPMC physicians were named include cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, maternal and fetal medicine, medical oncology, nephrology, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, otolaryngology, pathology, pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, general surgery, plastic surgery, psychiatry, pulmonary, reproductive endocrinology, rheumatology, orthopaedic surgery, neurological surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery and urology.
