PITTSBURGH, August 18, 2003 The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) has received the CIO 100 award from CIO magazine. The 2003 CIO 100 award recognizes organizations around the world that excel in positive business performance through resourceful information technology (IT) management and practices.
To provide a vision of ever-changing business trends, the focus of the CIO 100 changes each year. This year, the magazine is honoring 100 companies that demonstrate the resourceful use of technology and related assets in a tough economic climate.
This years award recipients are being honored because their companies have demonstrated resourceful use of IT systems, staff and budgets to maximize returns on investment.
UPMC is honored to be named as one of 100 prestigious companies who have generated value from information technology, said Dan Drawbaugh, chief information officer (CIO) at UPMC. Over the past two years, UPMC has continued to pursue improvements in the quality of patient care through the use of innovative technology solutions.
The recipients of this years CIO 100 were selected through a comprehensive three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form. In addition, CIO editorial staff and members of its expert panel nominated companies they deemed best fit the award criteria. A team of CIO editors and writers reviewed the application forms and expert recommendations and voted on the final 100. The judging objectives were to recognize positive business performance through the resourceful use of IT systems, staff and budgets in a challenging economy.
Other corporations included in the CIO 100 include The Procter & Gamble Company, Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., J.P. Morgan Chase and General Electric.
