Pitt School of Dental Medicine Showcases Research at 11th Annual Spring Symposium

What: The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine hosts its 11th annual Spring Symposium to showcase the research of its faculty, staff and students. The presentations include research into bioengineering salivary glands and the use of electronic records in dental offices.

Who: Keynote speaker Justin Starren, M.D., Ph.D., chief, division of biomedical informatics, Northwestern University, will give a speech entitled, "Connecting the (Digital) Dots: How Informatics is Changing Health Care and Biomedical Research.”

When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011 

Where: Scaife Hall, Auditorium 6, 3550 Terrace Street, Pittsburgh, 15261. Following the symposium, poster presentations will be on display across the street in Salk Hall, Room 457.

Why: Pitt’s School of Dental Medicine ranks 12th in National Institutes of Health funding overall, making it a national research powerhouse. Researchers at the school are recognized worldwide in the areas of craniofacial and dental genetics, craniofacial regeneration, dental informatics, clinical and translational science and public health and epidemiology.
