UPMC Sports Medicine to Host Third Free Training Seminar for 2011 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon
WHAT: “Ten Weeks and Counting,” the third of four free training seminars for participants of the 2011 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, hosted by UPMC Sports Medicine
WHO: Speakers will include Tara Ridge, P.T., UPMC Sports Medicine physical therapist; and Patrick Huber, ATC, EMT, UPMC Sports Medicine certified athletic trainer.

WHY: Runners getting ready for the marathon and UPMC Health Plan/UPMC Sports Medicine 5K will learn basic information and exclusive training tips.
Specific topics will include:
- “Modifying your running program when injured,” presented by Ms. Ridge
- “Race day warm up and cool down tips,” presented by Mr. Huber

As medical sponsor of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, UPMC Sports Medicine provides free training seminars for marathon participants, as well as medical support along the race course and at the start and finish lines. With UPMC’s Department of Emergency Medicine, UPMC Sports Medicine will assemble a team of medical volunteers from UPMC, other local hospitals, the City of Pittsburgh’s Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and other local EMS departments to provide medical care to the thousands of runners on race day. UPMC Sports Medicine is the official medical provider for the event, as it has been since the first Pittsburgh Marathon in 1985.
New to this year, UPMC Sports Medicine is the co-sponsor of the first-ever Pittsburgh 5K Run, to be held on race weekend at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 14. Register for the UPMC Health Plan/UPMC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5K Run on the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon’s web site.
