Ford “Warriors in Pink” Quilt Presented to UPMC Cancer Centers at UPMC Passavant

WHAT: The Neighborhood Ford Store will unveil a 2011 “Warriors in Pink” quilt for permanent display at UPMC Cancer Centers at UPMC Passavant (McCandless). Muriel Petchke, a two-time breast cancer survivor and McCandless resident, who was treated at UPMC Passavant, hand-stitched the fabric squares decorated by local supporters in thanks for the care she received as a patient.

WHERE: UPMC Passavant, 9100 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237

WHY: Each square of the handmade “Warriors in Pink” quilt represents a personal breast cancer story. Individual fabric squares were decorated by breast cancer survivors, their families and supporters from throughout the region at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Pittsburgh. They include words of hope and encouragement for those fighting breast cancer, and remembrance for those who lost their battle. More information is available at www.QuiltforTheCure.com.

Launched in 2006, Ford’s national “Warriors in Pink” campaign recognizes the strength and courage necessary to deal with the everyday challenges of fighting breast cancer. To date, Ford has dedicated more than $110 million to the cause.
