‘BodyChangers’ Unique Fitness Program Supports Physical Health and Wellness
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 28, 2012 – Many people try to make weight loss a New Year’s resolution but find it to be more difficult than expected. A new, comprehensive wellness program at
Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, starting January 24, 2013, aims to change that.
“It’s a very comfortable environment, not like the gym where you might have people looking at you and making you feel uncomfortable,” Dr. Gusenoff said. Three membership levels are available to the general public: a free basic membership that includes an e-newsletter and admission to educational seminars, and $25- or $50-per-month memberships with additional services, such as yoga, Mind Over Body behavioral sessions and cooking classes that help participants create healthful and flavorful meals, as well as monthly activities in the community, such as walks in the park.
Dr. March emphasizes that there is more to the program than just exercise. “You can work out. You can see a dietitian. You can meet with other people who have the same problems and may share some tips that have helped them resolve some of their struggles. You find out you are not alone.”
Drs. Gusenoff and March often will join the Friday night workouts at Magee, called “Happy Hour Redefined,” a class conducted by a personal trainer. “People will see us getting beat up by a good workout and know we are not there as doctors, but as their friends,”Dr. Gusenoff said.
