Noted Human Geneticist to Deliver Lecture on Personalized Medicine at Pitt

WHY: Personalized medicine refers to tailoring an individual’s health care based on their genetic information and other characteristics.
 
Dr. Stephan works to understand the causes of common diseases so early diagnostics and interventions can be implemented.  He has identified genes that predispose people to disorders such as autism, exercise-induced heart attacks and sudden infant death syndrome. Dr. Stephan received his Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh and went on to serve on the faculty at Harvard Medical School. He was executive director of the “Gene Partnership” at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he introduced modern genomic tools and strategies to its care delivery model.
