Check Your Heart for Mother’s Day: UPMC Hosts Cardiovascular Screenings at Ross Park Mall

WHAT: UPMC’s Heart and Vascular Institute will offer free blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol and blood glucose testing as part of its ongoing community outreach effort known as Check Your Heart.

WHY: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among women in the U.S. and more than one in three female adults has some form of cardiovascular disease. Also known as heart disease, the term cardiovascular disease comprises a variety of conditions including heart attacks, stroke, abnormal heart rhythms known as arrhythmias and heart valve problems.
Over the last year, UPMC has sponsored more than a dozen cardiovascular screenings in western Pennsylvania to encourage residents to know their risks. Often, the risk of cardiovascular disease can be lowered through eating a healthier diet, exercise and lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking.
