UPMC, Local Artists Unveil Mannequins to Highlight Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day

WHAT: Unveiling of the mannequin busts artistically rendered by local artists to honor Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day, and certificate presentation to Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC in recognition of its multidisciplinary team approach to treating breast cancer patients

WHY: Nationally, fewer than a quarter of the women undergoing breast-cancer related surgeries are fully aware of their breast reconstruction options or the quality of the surgical outcomes they can expect. UPMC and local artists are collaborating with displays of these artistically rendered mannequin busts at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, the Hillman Cancer Center and UPMC Passavant.
 
The mannequins, decorated by local artists including Alix Paul, Jim West, Katy Dement and Sandy Kessler, will be displayed beginning October 16th, which is National Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, throughout October, culminating in an auction of the mannequins on November 6th at the Andy Warhol Museum.
