WHAT: UPMC will honor the 5th annual Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day Pittsburgh (BRA Day) with an art show displaying mannequin busts artistically rendered by local artists. The event at Bar Marco’s Union Hall Gallery will also include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and access to the current exhibit "Environs" in the gallery. Additionally, there will be an interactive Gutai Art Box featuring artists and handmade creations for the guests.

Tickets for “The Art of Breast Reconstruction” can be purchased online, and additional information can be found on the BRA Day website.

WHO:

WHEN: 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19

  • Media is invited to the VIP event, which includes a preview of "The Art of Breast Reconstruction," a champagne toast, and a meet and greet with the artists and United States Congressman Mike Doyle.

WHERE: Bar Marco, The Union Hall Gallery, 2216 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

WHY: Nationally, less than a quarter of the women undergoing breast cancer-related surgeries are fully aware of their breast reconstruction options or the quality of the surgical outcomes they can expect. Breast reconstruction is important because it gives women closure from their experience with breast cancer. The mannequins, decorated by local artists including Ashley Andrews, Elizabeth Castonguay, Katy Dement, Jen Wertz, Jennifer Howison, Sandy Kessler, Dorothy Lampl, Laura Jean McLaughlin, Toby Atticus, Fraley, Sally Deskins, Nugent Kos, Leslie Sotomayor and breast cancer survivor Pat Miller, will be sold. Proceeds from the event will be used to raise awareness and promote education for breast reconstruction.

Media interested in attending should contact Amy Charley in advance at 412-586-9778.
