KANE, Pa., Aug. 30, 2016 – Kane Community Hospital (KCH), an affiliate of UPMC Hamot in Erie, provided $1.5 million in IRS-defined “community benefits” last year, an average of more than $4,100 a day for programs and services to improve the health and quality of life of all the communities KCH serves. The $1.5 million total includes:
• $1.3 million in charity care and unreimbursed amounts for programs for the poor
• $300,000 in community health programs and donations
Kane Community Hospital’s contributions were part of UPMC Hamot’s $26 million in total community benefits the health system provided during fiscal year 2015. UPMC Hamot’s $26 million in total community benefits includes:
• $16.3 million in charity care and unreimbursed amounts for programs for the poor
• $5.3 million in community health programs and donations
• $4.2 million in medical research and education
“We are more committed than ever to the residents of this region,” said J. Gary Rhodes, CEO of Kane Community Hospital. “Some of our major community health programs and donations throughout the year involve various health screenings, health fairs, flu shot programs, and partnerships with local Rotary clubs to provide multiphasic blood screenings.

Kane Community Hospital has a powerful effect on the local economy with a total annual economic impact of more than $36 million.
