UPMC St. Margaret Foundation Presents 29th Annual 5k Race: ‘Brian Demchak Hope Run—5k Run/Walk’

WHAT: St. Margaret Foundation will host their annual 5k in honor of Brian Demchak, a regular at the race, until he passed away in 2016, and a member of the hospital family. The Foundation has a fund in Brian’s memory that helps to fill in the gaps with hope, providing such things as medicine, medical devices, insulin and transportation to and from chemotherapy/radiation treatments.

The Plant the Seed of Hope Honor/Memorial Garden is a colorful new addition to the race this year and will feature pink, yellow, orange and purple personalized wind spinners along the start and finish line to honor and memorialize loved ones. Additionally, an after party will be held following the race featuring the Taste of Fox Chapel food competition with free samples from popular local restaurants, live music and free children’s activities.
The $35 registration fee is waived for anyone raising $100 or more for the Foundation.
Preregistration is required. To register, visit
WHY: Brian Demchak and his mother, Tina Demchak, made it a family tradition to run in the Foundation’s 5k until Brian passed away in January of 2016 at the age of 57. This year’s race will recognize the dedication of Brian and his family to the St. Margaret Foundation.
WHEN: 8:30 a.m., Sunday, May 21
WHERE: UPMC St. Margaret, 815 Freeport Rd., Pittsburgh, 15215
