Dr. Follansbee’s primary research interests are in nuclear cardiology as well as in the cardiovascular manifestations of systemic diseases. He has been a co-investigator of numerous clinical studies and research trials.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Follansbee has received many honors including being named to every Pittsburgh Magazine “Top Doctors” list since 1992. He is a recipient of the American Heart Association’s Teacher of the Year Award and the Peter J. Safar Pulse of Pittsburgh Award.
Dr. Follansbee received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia and he joined the University of Pittsburgh faculty in 1980.
Dr. Follansbee is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians and the American Heart Association. He also is a founding member and fellow of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
He has been a consulting reviewer for professional journals including American Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology, American Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Arthritis and Rheumatism, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Journal of Rheumatology, New England Journal of Medicine, and Stroke.
