Canterbury Place, a UPMC Senior Community, Marks 150 Years of Care​

PITTSBURGH, February 27, 2009 — Canterbury Place, a UPMC Senior Community, will mark 150 years of care with several upcoming events. The main event of the year-long celebration will be a reunion of former orphans who lived at Canterbury Place when it operated as the Episcopal Church Home. The reunion will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 28, in Lawrenceville.

Officials are searching for former orphans who lived at the Episcopal Church Home before 1948 to attend the reunion. Former orphans should contact Peggy VanHorn at 412-622-9239.

The following is a listing of other scheduled events that will commemorate this milestone anniversary.

Art Exhibit and Open House
Saturday, May 16

Local painters and sculptors will display their artwork at an open house in the McVay Atrium. Resident and employee art also will be exhibited. Refreshments will be served.

Garden Party-Themed Fashion Show and Open House
Saturday, June 27

The Seeders and Weeders Garden Club and Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival will join forces to host a garden party-themed fiber art fashion show at Canterbury for residents, family members and guests. 

Fiber Art Exhibit and Open House
Saturday, Oct. 3

Local fiber artists from the Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival will have interactive fiber art demonstrations and showcase their knitting and crocheting art at an open house in the McVay Atrium. Resident and employee art also will be exhibited. Refreshments will be served.

Light-Up Night Grand Finale
Friday, Nov. 20

Our grand finale event will be a light-up night party in the Fireside Lounge and Dining Room.  Residents, family members, employees and guests will celebrate our 150-year tradition of caring.
