High School Students Explore Pharmacy Careers at Pitt, Giant Eagle Camp

WHAT: Explore Rx Pharmacy Camp 2011 is for high school students who are interested in a career in pharmacy. The four-day, three-night camp includes hands-on experiences, panel discussions from university experts and an opportunity to shadow pharmacists on the job.

WHO: Fifty-one high school students were selected to attend the camp after submitting a recommendation from a counselor or chemistry teacher and an essay about pharmacy and how the camp would benefit them.  

WHEN: The camp starts Monday, June 20 and ends Thursday, June 23. From 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 23, students will hear from two presenters about why they chose a career in pharmacy. The speakers are DeAndra L. Jones, R.P.H., M.B.A., Manager Pharmacy Provider Network Services at UPMC Health Plan, and Natalie Yannotti, R.P.H., a clinical pharmacist at Gateway Health Plan.

WHY: Explore Rx Summer Camp 2011 is a unique experience for high school students who want to learn more about career opportunities in pharmacy. Through the partnership of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and Giant Eagle, students will interact with Pitt pharmacy students, faculty pharmacists and Giant Eagle pharmacists.
