UPMC Eye Center Team Participating in 5th Annual Pittsburgh VisionWalk, Invites Public to Join the Team
WHO: Medical chairs Drs. Joel Schuman, director,
UPMC Eye Center, Christin Sylvester and Leanne Labriola; individuals suffering from eye disease; friends; family; members of the community
WHEN: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, registration begins at 9:00 a.m.
WHERE: Southside Riverfront Park, S. 18th St. and Riverfront Park, Pittsburgh, Pa., 15203
WHY: To promote awareness of vision-robbing retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, Usher Syndrome and many other rare, inherited conditions that affect over 10 million Americans. The
Foundation Fighting Blindness is working to find treatments and cures for these devastating diseases. Research in areas such as genetics, gene therapy, transplantation, artificial retinal implants and pharmaceutical and nutritional therapies will benefit from the proceeds of VisionWalk. Pittsburgh VisionWalk has enjoyed much success in the past. Last year the event raised $35,000 and had nearly 150 participants. The event is family friendly and free.
