UPMC East Alive and Well Series Presents ‘Stroke Prevention and Rehabilitation’

WHAT: Free educational session covering the causes and risk factors of strokes along with the recovery options available through UPMC. Free health screenings will be available. Parking also is free and a hot breakfast will be served.
WHO and WHEN: 9 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 29
 9 to 10 a.m. ​Free cholesterol, triglyceride, blood sugar, blood pressure, BMI, pulse oximetry, and heart rate screenings. A 9 hour fast is recommended prior to screenings.
10 to 10:30 a.m.
​Jimmy Ong, M.D., Chief of Neurology at UPMC East, will discuss the causes and risk factors of a stroke, explaining how to recognize warning signs and make lifestyle changes to prevent a stroke.
10:30 to 11 a.m. ​Peter Hurh, M.D., Medical Director of the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute at UPMC East, will discuss the recently opened UPMC East Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit and how it can help patients recover from all types of injuries and illnesses, including a stroke.
11 to 11:30 a.m. ​Mark Gottron, D.O., of Irwin Family Care, PC, will explain the benefits of having an inpatient rehabilitation facility close to home.
