PITTSBURGH, Sept. 6, 2017 – UPMC today announced that Asbury Heights, a renowned senior living campus located in Pittsburgh’s South Hills, has joined UPMC Senior Communities.

Asbury Heights provides independent living, personal care, short-term rehabilitation and skilled nursing care accommodations to nearly 500 senior residents.

“The integration of Asbury Heights into UPMC will continue to advance resident experiences into the future in an ever-changing health care environment,” said Mark Bondi, president, UPMC Senior Communities. “This affiliation builds upon the longstanding relationship and shared mission of Asbury Heights and UPMC Senior Communities to improve the lives of older adults through high-quality and compassionate care.”

UPMC Senior Communities, which offer independent and assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care, are dedicated to promoting a lifestyle around health and wellness. The communities are staffed by experts who improve and enrich the lives of older adults so that they can stay active and as independent as possible. Including Asbury Heights, more than 3,400 western Pennsylvania seniors reside in UPMC Senior Communities.

UPMC will invest a minimum of $10 million in Asbury Heights of UPMC over the next five years. Facility improvements, information technology upgrades, staff learning and development, and access to UPMC’s innovative geriatric specialty services and research will position Asbury Heights to continually advance senior care and quality of living for older adults in the region.

“I am delighted that UPMC Senior Communities was selected as Asbury Heights’ partner,” said John Zanardelli, executive consultant, UPMC Senior Communities. “It is now affiliated with one of the leading medical providers in the country. I eagerly look forward to the support our exceptional care teams will gain and the enhanced innovations our services and residents will benefit from through this partnership.”

“A national search process led by Asbury Heights’ community board of directors resulted in the unanimous decision to select UPMC Senior Communities as its strategic partner,” said Deborah Brodine, president, UPMC Community Provider Services. “UPMC’s proven performance as a national academic medical center leader will enable Asbury Heights to continually advance services and enhance amenities for its residents.”

Brodine added, “Asbury Heights will continue to have its own board of directors providing continued input and oversight from the local community.”

With the addition of Asbury Heights, UPMC Senior Communities now encompasses 15 campuses offering multiple levels of care and extending UPMC’s world-class senior care throughout seven counties in Pennsylvania.
