PITTSBURGH, May 3, 2017 – UPMC’s Internal Communications team swept its award categories at the recent Intra.NET Reloaded 2017 in Boston, the international conference for digital workplace and internal communications. The awards came in recognition of the successful launch of UPMC’s newly improved Infonet, which is the internal website, or intranet, for the health care provider and insurer. UPMC is the largest nongovernmental employer in Pennsylvania.

For its updated Infonet, the UPMC Internal Communications team was awarded Best Intranet Integration and Strategy & Digital Workplace Management and Best User Experience Design & Content Management.

“We had tough competition from the world’s top companies, but Infonet checked the big boxes of intranet best practice: personalization, mobile accessibility, powerful search and simple design,” said Paul Wood, vice president of public relations and chief communications officer at UPMC. “This is more external validation and recognition of UPMC’s best practices, and a great example of our commitment to innovation and excellence in staff engagement and collaboration.”

Intra.NET Reloaded, one of over 60 international events organized by we.CONECT, recognizes innovative digital communication projects that have accomplished outstanding results in the workplace.

After review of submissions, a panel of judges from companies including Coca-Cola, Verizon, Pfizer, Aflac, Sephora, PNC Financial, Wells Fargo and Sheetz voted UPMC’s Infonet the winner in both categories.

Infonet is a key communication technology for UPMC and its employees that provides business and clinical tools, as well as career and benefit information. Last year, UPMC began an 18-month-long effort to dramatically improve Infonet from the ground up. The team was led by Jaime Nawojski, director, and Karissa Quinlan, senior manager, of UPMC Internal Communications.

“The award is great validation that our excellence extends beyond patient care,” said Nawojski. “Infonet has received positive feedback from staff since the new site launched earlier this year, and we have already started on more improvements. We’re thrilled that our work is improving communication with, and among, UPMC’s employees.”

The newly revamped Infonet personalizes content based on employees’ business unit, job role and manager status, helping to better target and connect UPMC’s diverse audience of over 65,000 employees. Additionally, the website now is mobile-friendly and features an updated search tool that offers more relevant results. These updates are part of UPMC’s commitment to helping busy employees find the information they need quickly.
