WHAT: Boy Scout Jaime Martinez, age 14, of Scout Troop 171 in Ingomar, raised more than $40,000 over the course of a year to beautify the grounds outside the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Passavant. After two months of construction, Martinez will host a ribbon cutting to open the garden, which was designed to help patients undergoing cancer treatment.
 
WHY: Martinez worked with JML Landscape Management and the Passavant Hospital Foundation to complete his project, which will provide a beautiful, relaxing view for the 60 to 75 patients who receive cancer treatment at UPMC Passavant each day.
