Visiting a Patient at UPMC Presbyterian

Located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, near the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC Presbyterian upholds a rich tradition of state-of-the-art, quality medical care. If you are planning to visit a patient who has been admitted to UPMC Presbyterian, use the links below to aid in your visit.

Accommodations

Family House, established in 1983, is a non-profit licensed organization that provides a special ‘home away from home’ for patients and their families who must travel to Pittsburgh for treatment of serious or life-threatening illnesses. By providing a supportive, home-like environment, Family House strives to make a difference in the quality of the families’ lives while they are in Pittsburgh. Located in the Oakland and Shadyside sections of Pittsburgh, Family House operates four free-standing houses (Family House Shadyside, Family House McKee, Family House Neville and Family House University Place) with a total of 160 guest rooms. Visiting Hours

General visiting hours in the hospitals are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Some special care units, such as intensive care units, have hours that differ from these. Please check with your loved one's nurse.

No more than two people should visit with a patient at one time. Talk with staff on the patient unit if you have a special request regarding visiting hours. Please check with your loved one's nurse before having children under age 12 visit.

Intensive Care Unit

Visiting hours are limited to 15-minute intervals every two hours. The first interval is: from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m., the next is from 12:30 to 12:45 p.m., and so on through the day. The last interval is from 8:30 to 8:45 p.m.

Gift Shops

Presby Floral & Gifts

Located on the first floor level of UPMC Presbyterian, this gift shop carries a variety of cards, gifts, magazines, and other personal items. The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed Sunday. To contact Presby Floral & Gifts, call 412-647-3181.

LHAS Windows on Seventh Floral and Gift Shop

The LHAS Windows on Seventh Floral and Gift Shop at UPMC Montefiore features a large array of gifts, including fresh flowers, cards, picture frames, and apparel. Located off the 7 Main lobby of UPMC Montefiore, the shop is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed Sunday. To reach the LHAS Windows on Seventh Floral and Gift Shop from UPMC Presbyterian, cross the pedestrian bridge that connects UPMC Presbyterian to UPMC Montefiore. Then, take UPMC Montefiore's visitor elevators to 7 Main. To contact the LHAS Windows on Seventh Floral and Gift Shop, call 412-648-6107.

The LHAS also operates LHAS Café Express, located in the 7 Main Lobby of UPMC Montefiore. LHAS Café Express offers specialty coffees, light snacks and grab-and-go sandwiches. The shop is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and weekends from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Send an E-Card

UPMC Presbyterian offers friends and family members the opportunity to send their loved one an e-card while he or she is a patient. Choose from a selection of get well, happy birthday, new baby, and holiday greetings. To take advantage of this free service, visit the UPMC E-Card website.

Parking

You may park your car yourself or take advantage of the convenient valet service.

Several garages are conveniently located near UPMC Presbyterian, including the Presby Garage, located on Lothrop Street, across from the main driveway entrance to the hospital. The garage is open 24 hours a day. For hospital discharge parking, see the driveway attendant.

Valet service operates from the UPMC Presbyterian driveway and is for patients of and visitors to UPMC Presbyterian and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Valet service is available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays. On weekends, valet parking service is available only for emergency patients and patients with state-approved placards indicating handicap. Valets are not permitted to accept tips.

UPMC's Blue Shuttle runs weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. It loops the Oakland campus every 40 minutes. Shuttle schedules, which include limited weekend service, are available at the information desks of UPMC Presbyterian.
