Meet Our Fatty Liver Disease Experts

Jaideep Behari, MD, PhD

Dr. Behari is an associate professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. He's also the co-director of the Liver Translational Research Program at the University of Pittsburgh Liver and Pancreas Institute.

Dr. Behari is board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology. He has a special interest in the evaluation and management of alcoholic and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Maja Stefanovic-Racic, MD, PhD

Dr. Stefanovic-Racic is an assistant professor in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh. She's also director of the Endocrinology Fellowship Training Program.

Dr. Stefanovic-Racic is board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology. She treats all endocrine disorders but has a specific interest in managing diabetes mellitus in people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Elise Wade, RD, LDN

Elise Wade is a registered dietitian with extensive experience in nutritional evaluation and counseling of people with chronic liver disease.

She has special expertise and a long-standing interest in managing nutrition in people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Celeste Shelton, MS, LCGC

Celeste Shelton is a certified genetic counselor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.

Her interests include precision medicine and genetic counseling to help manage complex genetic disorders.

Amy Roundtree Schmotzer, RN, BSN

Amy Roundtree Schmotzer is a clinical research coordinator in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.

She sets up clinical trials on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease within the Fatty Liver Program.

Theresa M. Lewis, RN, CGRN

Theresa M. Lewis is the outpatient nurse coordinator for the UPMC Fatty Liver Program. She is a gastroenterology nurse with a special interest in caring for people with fatty liver disease and other chronic liver diseases.

She takes care of outpatient care — including diagnostic testing, medical treatment, and endoscopic and radiologic exams — for Fatty Liver Program patients.
