Comprehensive consultations are offered by our providers before your trip, and are tailored to your underlying health status as well as your travel plans.

Our travel health experts provide the following services during your consult:

• Complete review of your travel itinerary
• Review of your health risks
• Review of prophylactic medications — including side effects and interactions with your currently prescribed drugs.
• Patient education about medications and immunizations that help prevent illnesses including malaria, traveler's diarrhea, Hepatitis A and typhoid fever.
• Immunizations for Hepatitis A and B, typhoid fever, rabies, measles/mumps/rubella, Japanese encephalitis, meningitis, and influenza.
• Review of safety precautions tailored to your travel plans
• Self-treatment guidance in the event of illness while traveling.
• Details on follow-up care for travel-acquired illness.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Travel Health program provides complete destination-specific services based on recommendations by the:

• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
• U.S. Department of State.
• World Health Organization (WHO).

Based on your travels, our medical experts will discuss the recommended and required immunizations. These immunizations may be obtained at your local pharmacy (if available), through the Falk Pharmacy in Oakland, or at the Allegheny County Health Department.

Our board-certified infectious disease specialists also assess and treat travel-acquired illnesses.
