Home Infusion and Pharmacy Services
UPMC at Home offers infusion therapy, specialty pharmacy, and retail pharmacy services.
Infusion Therapy at Home
Infusion therapy involves giving medication through a needle or catheter and clinical monitoring by pharmacists and nurses. It can also refer to receiving drugs through non-oral routes — such as intramuscular injections and epidurals.
Your doctor may prescribe infusion therapy when oral medications can't effectively treat your health problem.
Specialty Pharmacy Services and Delivery
Specialty pharmacy involves mostly biologic drugs that treat a range of complex and chronic health conditions including:
- Cancer
- Crohn’s disease
- Hepatitis
|
- HIV
- Multiple sclerosis
- Rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis
|
UPMC's specialty pharmacies focus on this group of drugs.
We provide complete and coordinated delivery and the necessary support to effectively dispense these specialized drugs to patients.

UPMC Retail Pharmacies
UPMC’s retail pharmacies are on-site at many of our hospitals. This allows us to create a unique patient experience as you transition from the hospital to home.
Some of UPMC’s retail pharmacies are also located within our large outpatient clinics. These offer the convenience of filling prescriptions at the same location as your health care provider.
Meds to Beds program
Many patients find it challenging to stop at their local pharmacy on the way home from the hospital following an inpatient stay.
The Meds to Beds program helps lessen this burden by filling your prescriptions and delivering them to your hospital room before discharge.
Refills also are available through the mail from these same pharmacies — another time-saver that has a positive effect on patient adherence.
Visitors to UPMC Emergency Rooms should inquire about the availability of the Meds to Beds program.
