Dr. Abla is clinical professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, specializing in the treatment of complex spine disorders. Before joining UPMC, Dr. Abla was director of spine services for Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Abla completed his neurosurgical residency training at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and at the University of Oklahoma. To obtain cross-training in spinal instrumentation, he completed a year in the orthopaedic residency program at the University of Oklahoma. He also completed a clinical fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital, a residency at American University of Beirut, Lebanon, and a residency at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Abla is board-certified in neurological surgery.
