Sports Rehabilitation Programs
UPMC Sports Medicine’s physical therapy and sports rehabilitation programs treat many student, recreational, amateur, and professional athletes to help them get back in the game.
Our orthopaedic surgeons work together with board-certified physical therapists from the UPMC Centers for Rehab Services using cutting-edge, science-based rehabilitation techniques to speed recovery and restore function.
Sports rehabilitation programs provided by Sports Medicine specialists include orthopaedic and sports-specific rehabilitation, shoe orthotic fabrication and bracing, sports-specific training and conditioning, isokinetic testing, musculoskeletal pre-sports screenings, de-weighting rehabilitation, specialized functional training, and polymeric floor programs.
For patients with arthritis or chronic pain, fibromyalgia, or for those recovering from surgery, aquatic therapy provides a method of rehabilitation that can decrease pain and stress on joints as water allows the body to become more buoyant. Aquatic therapy promotes range of motion, increases flexibility, tones muscles, increases the healing and strengthening of injured tissues, and reduces joint stiffness.
