David C. Koch Regional Cancer Therapy Center
Many patients present to their physician with tumors too advanced for surgical removal, or the tumor has recurred after surgery. At the David C. Koch Regional Cancer Therapy Center of UPMC Cancer Centers, surgeons are using regional chemotherapy techniques to treat patients with cancer that has advanced beyond a surgical cure, but is still limited to an organ or region of the body.
Regional perfusion of chemotherapy delivers higher concentrations of chemotherapy without the side effects, offering an improved chance of response. UPMC Cancer Centers' program is a national referral site for patients with:
- regionally confined metastatic tumors to the liver
- peritoneal carcinomatosis
- advanced tumors of the extremities
- tumors involving the pleural cavity
