Visiting a Patient at UPMC Braddock
Serving the Monongahela and Turtle Creek valleys, UPMC Braddock provides general medical care, intensive care, and specialty care that includes geriatric psychiatry and laser surgery. Accomodations
Family House, established in 1983, is a non-profit licensed organization that provides a special ‘home away from home’ for patients and their families who must travel to Pittsburgh for treatment of serious or life-threatening illnesses. By providing a supportive, home-like environment, Family House strives to make a difference in the quality of the families’ lives while they are in Pittsburgh. Located in the Oakland and Shadyside sections of Pittsburgh, Family House operates four free-standing houses (Family House Shadyside, Family House McKee, Family House Neville and Family House University Place) with a total of 160 guest rooms. Visiting Hours
Two visitors per patient are permitted at any one time. Out of concern for patients, children younger than age 14 are not permitted on patient floors, unless permission has been given by the doctor, head nurse, or nursing supervisor before the time of the visit. Children under 14 may wait in the hospital’s main lobby when accompanied by an adult. An exception to this policy is the Progressive Care Center (3-West), where visitation by children is encouraged. Hours of visitation for individual patient units are:
- Medical and Surgical Units (2-, 4-, and 5-West)
10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Progressive Care Center (3-West)
24-hour-a-day visiting, as patient condition permits
- Critical Care Unit (2-East)
11 to 11:30 a.m., 5 to 5:30 p.m., and 7:30 to 8 p.m.
- Intermediate Care Unit (2-East)
11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 5 to 8:30 p.m.
- Behavioral Health Units
3-East
Monday and Friday -- 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday -- 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Wednesday -- 7 to 8:30 p.m. (following family night)
Saturday and Sunday -- 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.
4-East
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday -- 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday and Friday -- no visiting hours
Gift Shop
A snack bar and gift shop are located inside the hospital's main entrance, near the first floor lobby. Snacks, beverages, and a wide assortment of sundries and gift items are available. The Cot Club, a volunteer organization, operates the shop and contributes all proceeds to the hospital. The snack bar and gift shop are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Parking
Parking for visitors is available in an open air lot near the main entrance to the hospital.
