Eyelash and Brow Enhancement

UPMC Content 3

Overview of Procedure

During an eyelash or brow tinting procedure, the natural color of your lashes and brows are enhanced using a vegetable dye. The process is quick, nonsurgical, and the results are very natural.

If you have inadequate or not enough eyelashes, you may opt for LATISSE®, an FDA-approved prescription treatment to make eyelashes longer, thicker, and darker.

Am I a candidate?

Eyelash and brow tinting may be for you if want to enhance the light color of your eyelashes and brows, or if your eyebrows are a different color than your hair.

LATISSE® treatment may be an option for you if you have sparse eyelashes, which can be caused by heredity and some medical conditions and treatments. LATISSE® may not be right for you if you have a history of eye pressure problems, are taking medication for these problems, or have risk factors for glaucoma. Speak with an eye care specialist before starting treatment.

What to Expect During the Procedure

During a tinting procedure, your eyelashes and brows will be cleaned to remove makeup and oils. Cream will be placed around your eyes and paper pads under lashes to protect skin from discoloration from the dye. Dye is then applied to lashes and brows. The dye is left on for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the strength of color desired. After the color has taken effect, your lashes and brows will be washed.

LATISSE® is applied by the patient at home every night. After cleaning your face and removing contact lenses, you apply LATISSE® with a provided applicator to the upper eyelid at the base of the eyelashes.

Typical Results

Tinting lasts four to six weeks. The lashes and brows have to be redone when hairs grow out and fall out naturally and are replaced with new hairs.

The effects of LATISSE® are gradual. The majority of users saw significant improvement by two months. If you stop using LATISSE®, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
