Great health care resources change lives and grow the economy. UPMC is building a stronger future for the northwest region and enhancing health care services for residents of Erie, Kane, and Seneca, Pennsylvania, as well as people living in southwestern New York through new construction at UPMC Hamot and UPMC Chautauqua.
Construction crews continue to make progress on UPMC Hamot's new Patient Tower, the largest expansion project in the hospital's history. When completed, the seven-story patient tower will include more intensive care unit beds and an expanded imaging units.
UPMC is expanding the Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI) to Erie, and creating a new biomedical commercialization and translational research lab at Penn State Behrend's Knowledge Park. The initiative is bringing locally focused clinical medical research trials to the region, creating a new sector in Erie's economy. The move to downtown Erie marked MWRI's first expansion outside of Pittsburgh.
