“When it came time to choose where to receive cancer care, UPMC Hillman’s outstanding reputation and its convenient proximity to my home made the decision an easy one,” Julie recalls.

From the moment she arrived, Julie found that every detail—from valet parking to therapy dogs in the waiting room—was thoughtfully designed to ease the burden of treatment. “If you have to undergo cancer treatment, there truly is no better place to be,” she says.

But Julie’s story is not just about receiving care—it’s about the ripple effect of generosity. After a difficult day, Julie discovered her parking was paid for by a donor honoring a cancer patient. That small act—a five-dollar gift—brought unexpected joy and made her feel seen and supported. Inspired by this kindness, Julie and her husband, Neil Friedman, decided to become matching donors for Giving Tuesday, pledging a $10,000 matching gift to help others experience the same feeling of comfort and hope.
