Life Changing Is … Care Beyond Words

Jouli, RN – ICU Nurse

COVID-19 hit just as Jouli began her job as a nurse at UPMC Mercy. But she is not one to shrink from a challenge.

Born and raised in Syria, Jouli moved to Pittsburgh with her family when she was 16.

“My English was really bad, and it was difficult to be an immigrant,” she says. But she nurtured a dream to be in the medical field. She earned her nursing degree and a bachelor’s degree, and she is working toward a master’s degree.

Jouli can continue her studies because UPMC reimburses her for the classes.

“I still want to accomplish more,” Jouli says. “I want to be more involved in the hospital. My goal is to be able to one day be a leader at UPMC, and you can only do that if you work hard and prove yourself.”

Jouli feels nothing but support at UPMC Mercy because everyone works as a team to support each other. After two years at UPMC, Jouli believes there’s more to come for her.

“I always want to be the best I can be,” she says.

At UPMC, Life Changing Medicine means working hard to achieve our goals.
