Pittsburgh Pride Festival and Equality March

UPMC’s Leaders in LGBTQ Health Care Equality

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation named two UPMC hospitals as 2018 “Leaders in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality.” Once again, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC received the title.

Children’s and Western Psychiatric were among a select group of 303 health care facilities nationwide honored in the 2018 Healthcare Equality Index. The annual survey rates facilities’ policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ patients, visitors, and employees.

Facilities named leaders in LGBTQ health care equality meet criteria in four key areas:

  1. Foundational elements of LGBTQ patient-centered care
  2. LGBTQ patient services and support
  3. Benefits and policies for LGBTQ employees
  4. LGBTQ patient and community engagement
