COVID-19 Information
Jerry had non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and needed a transplant. He'd been waiting for a suitable liver to become available from a deceased organ donor for five years without success.
As his condition got worse, the doctors at UPMC told him his only chance for survival was to receive a liver transplant from a living donor.
Jerry's newly-engaged daughter volunteered to be the live donor, but her father was hesitant to put her through the surgery. She finally convinced him saying "Dad, no one is going to walk me down the aisle at my wedding but you."
A little over a year after the successful surgeries, Jerry's daughter got her wish. Her father walked her down the aisle to a room filled with tears of happiness.
UPMC is the only hospital in the region that performs living-donor liver transplants.
