The effects of throwing a baseball on a pitcher’s body are being evaluated through a collaborative research study between Mercyhurst University, UPMC Hamot, and Erie Shriners Ambulatory Surgery Center and Outpatient Speciality Care Center.
A pitcher's risk of injury increases with the number of pitches they throw during a day. This study seeks to discover if pitch count of 100 pitches, the unofficial midseason limit, is scientifically sound.
Twelve Mercyhurst pitchers agreed to be a part of this study.
