Delivering Good News for Pregnant Women!

Governor Wolf enforces consent decree, allowing expectant moms with Highmark insurance, in-network access to Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC

PA Governor Tom Wolf reaffirmed on Thursday, January 29, that women who have Highmark insurance and became pregnant and sought treatment in 2014 will continue to have in-network access at in-network rates to the care that they’ve come to know and trust from Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC. This enforcement of the consent decree entered into by UPMC and Highmark last summer ensures that pregnant women will have a choice in the providers who manage their prenatal care and the hospital where they deliver.

Earlier this year, Highmark altered the scope of the provisions agreed upon for pregnant women seeking obstetrical care in 2015, refusing to provide in-network Magee coverage to those women seeing an independent OB-GYN or one affiliated with another hospital. Thursday’s announcement supports the coverage of all pregnant women who have Highmark insurance and became pregnant and sought treatment in 2014.
