About UPMC McKeesport

About the Internal Medicine Residency Program

Our residency is a rich and celebrated program that has been fully accredited since 1976 and is part of the UPMC family. We are a three-year categorical program that will provide you with the skills and confidence to practice as a primary care physician, hospitalist, or enter subspecialty training. Our residency program is sponsored by the UPMC Graduate Medical Education.

A significant focus of our training, however, is your development as a primary care physician to help keep patients safe, happy and trusting in you as a physician. We provide broad-based clinical training in Internal Medicine, while serving the health needs of our community. Our program’s core value is a commitment to educate and train residents to become competent physician leaders who provide high quality, patient-centered care. We provide a supportive working and learning environment that fosters professional growth and guides our residents as caring and compassionate physicians.

(Our program fully embraces the 6 GME competencies. In addition, we have adopted our own 7th competency – balance between professional and personal lives. Our Program is designed to promote camaraderie between residents and faculty, resulting in a “big family” supportive environment.)
