PITTSBURGHUPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh opened a pediatric orthopaedic urgent care center — UPMC Children’s Orthopaedic Urgent Care — a full-service urgent walk-in clinic where patients up to age 18 will receive immediate and specialized care for minor orthopaedic injuries, such as broken bones, fractures, sprains, tendon injuries and joint problems.

The new center, located within the hospital, is expected to greatly improve the patient and family experience at UPMC Children’s. The clinic will not only lower wait times, but families will avoid an unnecessary trip to the Emergency Department.

“In just one stop, families can get expert diagnosis and treatment for minor acute orthopaedic injuries, ultimately saving families time, money and inconvenience,” said W. Timothy Ward, M.D., chief, Division of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, and medical director of UPMC Children’s Orthopaedic Urgent Care.

Pediatric surgeons and specialists from the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery will see patients from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on weekends in the Lion Pod, Floor 2, at UPMC Children’s in Lawrenceville.
