Facials

UPMC Content 3

Overview of Procedure

A facial restores your skin and gives you a healthy glow. This cosmetic treatment starts with an in-depth analysis of your skin, allowing the aestheticians to customize a treatment specific to your needs. You can enjoy a deep exfoliation, nourishing mask, and a relaxing facial massage — all essentials in maintaining healthy skin.

This treatment helps minimize pores and reduce bacteria. Meanwhile, collagen and elastin are gently stimulated. Facials also help skin care products penetrate more effectively to leave your skin radiant.

Long-term skin care regimens can help extend the benefits of facials. The CLENZIderm™ M.D. Penetrating Acne Therapeutic System, Obagi Nu-Derm® System and Professional-C Serum™ antioxidant therapy are three treatments that can help you maintain your healthy, younger looking skin.

Am I a candidate?

Facials are appropriate for just about all skin types and individuals of all ages. The treatment is particularly helpful for patients with acne, enlarged pores and wrinkles, and for those who want to smooth and soften their skin.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Your skin will be thoroughly cleaned with a product appropriate for your skin type. An exfoliant will be used on your face in combination with steam or steam towels to loosen and remove dirt and debris. If wanted or needed, blackheads or whiteheads will be extracted. A facial massage will help stimulate your skin, and a facial mask will be applied. Toners and creams will be applied as the last step in the process. Before you leave, the aesthetician will offer advice on how to care for your skin at home to maintain its healthy glow.

Typical Results

Results vary depending on your skin type and problems. Regular treatments, ideally every four to six weeks, will keep your face glowing. You may need more frequent treatments if you are trying to clear up a case of acne.
