Dr. Richardson is associate professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and director of adult epilepsy surgery and co-director of functional neurosurgery at UPMC. He specializes in comprehensive epilepsy surgery as well as deep brain stimulation for movement disorders, and leads the interventional MRI deep brain stimulation (DBS) program at UPMC.
Dr. Richardson's additional clinical expertise includes intraoperative ping to preserve brain function, including language, in patients who are awake during epilepsy and brain tumor surgery.
Dr. Richardson received his medical and doctoral degrees from the Medical College of Virginia of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of California – San Francisco, where he received specialized training in epilepsy neurosurgery, deep brain stimulation, and brain ping during awake craniotomies.
