Andrea — Physical Therapy Patient Story

Ever since she was a teenager, Andrea has suffered from back issues. After suffering from a fall and giving birth to three children, Andrea thought her back pain was just something she was going to have to deal with for the rest of her life.

“It’s been a long journey”, Andrea said. “When I was 17 years old, I fell down some steps and fractured my Sacroiliac joint. Since that time, I’ve always had discomfort or pain in that area.”

Andrea worked with a family friend, who is a chiropractor, for several years. While she knew the chiropractor did as much as he possibly could, she wasn’t getting enough relief. She was always thinking about her back and how she had a very limited life. At that point, she found UPMC Centers for Rehab Services in Peters Township and decided to give physical therapy a try.

Andrea worked with Dan Rehak, physical therapist and facility director at the UPMC Centers for Rehab Services in Peters Township, who taught her how to work with her back and self-manage. “I never felt like I was in this by myself,” Andrea said. Dan helped her to feel empowered during her treatment.

“The treatment was great. Dan’s experience was evident immediately, and within three visits, I felt a noticeable difference,” Andrea said. Dan received his master’s degree in physical therapy from Slippery Rock University and specializes in orthopedic and sports physical therapy.

Andrea was impressed with the thoroughness of the staff and appreciated that the education she received was clearly communicated. “It is a comfortable environment. The people are positive, friendly, and very helpful,” Andrea said.

While Dan taught her how to perform each exercise correctly and how to anticipate things that might aggravate her back, she knows that she will never be completely back to normal. “I came to the realization that it’s never going to be 100%, but it’s so much better now!” Andrea said.

“I highly recommend CRS to others,” Andrea said. “We brought our daughter here for an injury and during that time, I noticed they were looking for a person to help out at the office from time to time as a rehab aide. I jumped at the chance to join the team at CRS Peters Township and can speak from experience as I learn to help others!”
