Your thyroid gland acts as the “control center” for your body, and the hormones it produces help to maintain your organs and ensure that you are using energy properly.
If you suffer from hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid, your body doesn’t make enough thyroid hormone. If you suffer from hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid, your body makes too much thyroid hormone. If you have a thyroid nodule it can potentially harbor thyroid cancer.
Because an underactive or overactive thyroid can cause problems with your metabolism, it is important that you seek treatment if you are experiencing symptoms.
Common symptoms of a thyroid disorder include:
- Fatigue
- Cold intolerance
- Constipation
- Dry, flaky skin
- Tremors
- Excessive sweating
- Smooth, velvety skin
- Fine, brittle hair
- A rapid heart rate
- An enlarged thyroid gland
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, your physician will perform a blood test to determine the levels of thyroid hormone in your body. If treated early, overactive and underactive thyroid can be managed with medication.
We will assess your condition and create a customized treatment plan for you. We use the latest treatments and therapies available and provide ongoing support, including follow-up care and medication management.
Thyroid Nodule Diagnosis And Treatment
A thyroid nodule could be cancerous. If you have a thyroid nodule our endocrinologists can do in-office ultrasound and biopsy diagnosis to identify the cause and type of nodule.
If you are experiencing the symptoms listed above, please contact one of our Central PA offices to schedule an appointment.
