HypnoBirthing at UPMC in South Central Pa.

What is HypnoBirthing®?

HypnoBirthing® is a birth method that prepares a woman to give birth in a peaceful and calming manner. This birth method considers the psychological and physical well-being of the mother as well as her birth partner and the newborn.

The HypnoBirthing® method is a process that includes special breathing, relaxation, visualization, meditative practice, attention to nutrition and positive body toning. It fosters a mutual respect for the birthing family and the health care provider. HypnoBirthing® is not hypnosis and women who choose this method are not in a “trance” during labor. This method focuses on using the techniques above to create a calm and peaceful birth experience.

We know that you have many choices when giving birth to your baby, one being the childbirth education classes you will choose to prepare for your baby’s birth. We are proud to now offer HypnoBirthing® at UPMC Pinnacle.

Why choose HypnoBirthing®?

The HypnoBirthing® birth method is meant to avoid unnecessary medical intervention. Because many women are conditioned to believe that there is excruciating pain with labor, they have an unprecedented fear of giving birth. This fear causes their bodies to become tense, preventing their bodies from having an easy delivery.

HypnoBirthing® gives women a way to take control of their bodies and give birth confidently in a calm, safe and gentle manner. HypnoBirthing® techniques teach expectant mothers how to release all preconceptions about birth and learn new methods to help ease the pain of labor. HypnoBirthing® techniques are also helpful for expectant mothers and their partners to cope with stressful situations in day-to-day life.
