Dr. Christopher Sciortino is an assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and surgical director of the UPMC Heart Transplant Program, the UPMC Advanced Heart Failure Center, the UPMC Artificial Heart Program.

He earned his medical degree, as well as a master’s degree in applied anatomy and a doctorate in biophysics and bioengineering, at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Dr. Sciortino then completed his residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he won numerous clinical and academic awards.

Dr. Sciortino's clinical practice encompasses all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass, aortic, heart rhythm, and valve surgeries, and minimally invasive surgery. He specializes in surgical treatment for advanced heart failure, including ventricular assist devices, heart transplant, and ECMO. His research interests include heart failure outcomes after surgery, heart transplantation, and VAD development.
