UPMC's Simulation Medical and Resource Training Unit (SMART Unit) is a multi-purpose mobile unit with the ability to provide disaster relief and response within short notice.

UPMC’s SMART Unit creates a learning environment for paramedics, EMT’s and emergency medical physicians. In addition to two fully-equipped hospital emergency treatment rooms, the SMART Unit also has a triage and control area for prioritizing patients in a disaster, completing documentation and controlling the operation of the medical simulator (Sim Man). A spacious center room can be used as a holding area for non-urgent patients or can be used as an ambulatory treatment area.
This area also has a large LCD monitor for trainees to observe simulated patient treatment so learning can be facilitated by observing, then by performing the learned skill.

As an excellent platform for public health and wellness; the UPMC Smart Unit is highly mobile, allowing it to go into the community-at-large. Employing the Unit’s abilities to provide an area to assess and treat patients, as well as its ability to use the latest in multimedia presentations for education, one can plainly see that this is the SMART choice when it comes to your public health needs.
