A Salicylic Acid Peel is a light chemical peel used to treat acne, melasma, and pigmentary changes in the skin. It is performed by applying a mild topical acidic solution (30 percent salicylic acid) to the skin. It is left on for about six minutes and then wiped away with water.
You may experience a slight burning or stinging sensation when the solution is applied, but this subsides after a few minutes. The procedure is generally well-tolerated.
After the procedure, you may experience temporary redness and mild flaking as the skin exfoliates. This typically lasts one to three days.
The procedure may cause sun sensitivity, so it is important to use a daily sun block with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide (SPF 30 or higher for everyday use, and SPF 50 or higher if outdoors).
Multiple treatments are needed to achieve maximum results. Salicylic acid peels can be done at monthly intervals. A series of four to six peels provides the best overall results
