Stroke Telemedicine

More than 750,000 people in the United States experience a stroke each year, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For a patient who has had a stroke, every minute counts.

UPMC's Stroke Telemedicine Program allows more patients located outside of Pittsburgh, Pa., to be treated faster and closer to home.

The program uses state-of-the-art videoconferencing technology to link stroke experts to emergency department physicians throughout our network of hospitals.

At the UPMC Stroke Institute — the only Joint Commission-certified stroke center in western Pennsylvania — our experts see more than 1,000 patients each year and provide telemedicine consultations for hundreds.
