UPMC's registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and dietitian technicians provide personalized nutrition education to help you treat and prevent disease and improve your quality of life.

Scheduling an Appointment

We offer these tips to make it easier to schedule your appointment:

• A referral form (PDF) from your provider is required to schedule an appointment for medical nutrition therapy.
• Check with your insurance provider to see if medical nutrition therapy is a covered benefit and if you need authorization before your visit.
• Many of our providers offer video visits.
• Explore our medical nutrition therapy locations to schedule your appointment. Please note that not all locations offer all services. Contact your office for more information on services.

What to Expect

A few notes for your first visit:

• When preparing for your appointment, please bring the referral form from your provider, your insurance card, and your ID.
• You will meet with a registered dietitian nutritionist or dietitian technician who will conduct an in-depth nutritional assessment and dietary analysis.
• Your dietitian will go over the findings and talk with you about your nutritional goals.
• Your dietitian will prepare a plan you can follow to make small changes over time that will improve your diet and nutrition.
• They will support you as you follow your plan and provide additional resources as needed to help you be successful.
