Amenorrhea

Amenorrhea happens when you do not have periods, as expected.

  • Primary amenorrhea — means that you haven’t started menstruating by the age of 16
  • Secondary amenorrhea — you normally get periods but haven’t had one in three to six months

Diagnosing Amenorrhea

Your physician will take a full medical history and may want you to have blood work.

Treating Amenorrhea

The goal of treatment is to correct the abnormality that is causing the amenorrhea.

This may include medication to try to induce a period or other procedures.
